The tactile relationship between controller and resulting audio in the studio is more important than we realized before. There is something deeply satisfying about just turning the knobs until it sounds great. I have also found that using a controller helps to keep focus on the audio, fostering and encouraging a working mode of listening without the distraction or impediment of visual interfaces that can often trick your ears or skew judgment.
